MITCHELL, S.D. – The Viterbo University Men’s Soccer team earned their first victory this weekend against Dakota Wesleyan University. The V-Hawks had the opportunity to see the Tigers two weekends ago when they hosted them at their home tournament. The V-Hawks won 2-0 and it was a fight all the way to the end.

Alfie Gyurkovits (Sr. – Cranage, England) had the game-winner for the V-Hawks, scoring off of a pass from Aidan Radford in the 24th minute. The V-Hawk men were short a man on defense the entire second half but were able to hold Dakota Wesleyan scoreless. Viterbo’s second goal of the game was the result of a Jacob Battista (Melbourne, Australia) penalty kick.

Throughout the match, Viterbo outshot Dakota Wesleyan 16-6 and had nine shots on goal, compared to the Tigers’ two. It was a fight to the end, with the teams committing a combined 18 fouls throughout.

The V-Hawks (1-0-1) will face Martin Luther College at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletics Complex on Thursday, September 9. The game is set for 2:00 p.m. CST. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
