LA CROSSE, Wisc. – The Viterbo Men’s Basketball team (14-12) fell to the Presentation Saints on Saturday evening, 76-68. Before the game, six Viterbo seniors were honored for their contributions to the program: Gregory Cano, Spencer Speltz, Evan Parker, Nicholas Malovrh, Noah Fredrickson, and Brady Polk.
The V-Hawks fought hard in the first half, with the biggest lead by either team being a slim five-point margin by the Saints with 7:25 left to go before the break. The V-Hawks would later overtake the Saints, 34-32 on a Jack Monis layup with 2:20 remaining in the half; however, the Saints closed the half strong in the final minutes, going on a 5-0 run to end the half with the lead.
In half number two, the Saints were able to push their lead to 11 points with 6:15 remaining in the game. With 24 seconds remaining, the V-Hawks shrinked the lead to four points, but it was too little too late for the V-Hawks who succumbed to the loss with solid free-throw shooting from the Saints down the stretch, falling 76-68.
The V-Hawks were led by Jack Monis with 23 points, followed by Polk with 16. Robert Cunitz finished with nine points, putting him two points away from 1000 career points with one regular season game remaining. Monis is also now only seven points away from the 1000 career-point milestone. The V-Hawks will remain at home on Friday evening for their final regular-season game against Waldorf. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
